Land Acknowledgement
The Residence Society recognizes that our very existence centres on the fact that we are residents on the stolen land of the Ho-de-no-sau-nee-ga (Haudenosaunee/Iroquois), Wendake-Nionwentsïo (Huron-Wendat), and Mississagua peoples. We represent, support, and advocate for students, both settler and native, currently residing on these territories and thus recognize the privilege and power we hold in order to do so. We work alongside and in conjunction with Queen’s University, whose very founding and subsequent history was colonial in its intention and operation. In the present day, Queen’s University, and by extension, the Residence Society, is able to operate because of the financial and institutional stability and recognition granted by this colonial history. We at the Residence Society are continually learning about our history, the land we live and operate on, and the students we represent. We are committed to including active anti-oppression and decolonization work as part of what we do here at Queen’s University Residences.
